The Door Down the Hallway
(This story is told from a young child's perspective. This story tools place in my old home & during the summer of 1998. )
When I was eight years old, something happened. My parents were busy people and often left the house, my two siblings and I would stay home with my grandmother, my grandmother is s only in her 80's, but she often forgets super quickly. My mother would often tell the three of us to watch over her, but kids being kids, we often forget. A couple of times, she walked out of the house and get lost a couple of times. Thankfully, she never got hurt. Our grandma's house was a small one, luckily, I had a room all to myself. Across my room of the hallway was my grandmother's place.
Sometimes, I always found the door open, it's nothing too wrong, but it is creepy. Always thought it was my grandma forgetting to close the door.
Why did I write this story? I'll tell you why.
It was a Tuesday night, my sister and older brother were downstairs helping grandma cook dinner. I was upstairs doing My own thing like drawing while listening to an old radio. My room is on the second floor and the stairs are in the middle of the hallway. Even from the loud music, I could still hear loud thumping coming up the stairs. I didn't take notice, thought It was one of my siblings or grandma coming up the stairs. The footsteps eventually, stop right outside my door, I should be that my door is always locked so no one can disturb me and my quiet. The doorknob slowly turns a couple of times before they start banging on my door. I sigh, Mom already told them to not bother me. "You know you can't be in my room, I will tell mom!" My siblings didn't respond. I thought they were trying to mess with me. Then, The pounding stop. I got up and put my ear on the door, trying to hear anything from the other side. I did hear something or someone. Whoever it was, they were making low groaning noises As if they were hurt. "Okay, hah, hah. Stop trying to scare me." Still no response, instead they shuffle down the hallway and a slight noise caught my attention.
It was a creak. I got up from my cozy bed, unlocked my door, and peeked through.
My grandma's door was open and I could hear my siblings downstairs.
